My ABA Journey – Kiara

My ABA Journey - Kiara

I first discovered Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) during my third year of undergraduate study at Bangor University, while pursuing a degree in Clinical Psychology. As I explored behavioural psychology in more depth, I found myself particularly drawn to the practical and meaningful applications of ABA—especially its role in helping people live more independent, fulfilled lives.

After completing my BSc, I stayed at Bangor to continue studying ABA and began working towards my UKBA certification.

One of the most valuable parts of my learning journey has been my time with Rainbow Behavioural Therapies. Rainbow has given me the chance to put my knowledge into practice, gain supervised experience, and meet the competencies required for certification. But more than that, they’ve supported me every step of the way—providing guidance, insight, and real-world lessons that have helped shape me as a practitioner.

In my role, I’ve had the opportunity to support a wide range of clients—from children in SEN high schools to those in mainstream education and home-based programmes. Each client brings unique strengths and challenges, and no two days are ever the same. These experiences have helped me develop flexibility, patience, and a deeper understanding of how to tailor support for every individual.

Whether it’s working on communication, emotional regulation, independence, or motivation, I’ve seen how impactful ABA can be. Every small breakthrough reminds me of why I chose this path in the first place. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching progress unfold—especially when you hear it from the client themselves or see it reflected in their day-to-day confidence.

Right now, I’m focused on helping clients boost their independence and motivation in school settings. Looking ahead, I’m excited to explore new areas of ABA—particularly those focused on teaching functional life skills and empowering people to live more independently.

I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and the incredible team around me. I’m also passionate about raising awareness of ABA—how it can positively impact not just individuals but their families too. I hope that by sharing my experiences, more people will come to understand the value of ABA, and more professionals will feel inspired to enter this rewarding and impactful field.
