Almost two years ago, I began my journey as a Behaviour Therapist at Rainbow Behavioural Therapies—and what a journey it’s been.
Before moving to the UK, I worked in a mainstream school in Hong Kong. I often felt frustrated by the lack of structured methods to support students with special needs. It was this frustration that led me to start researching more effective approaches, and that’s when I discovered Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). I was immediately drawn to how ABA uses systematic, evidence-based strategies to support individuals with diverse needs. That discovery inspired me to pursue a Master’s in ABA in the UK.
Starting life in a new country brought its own set of challenges. I had to adapt to a completely different school system, new parenting approaches, and cultural perspectives that shape a child’s development. But when I found Rainbow Behavioural Therapies, I found not just a workplace—but a space to truly begin my journey in ABA. It was here that I saw the real-life impact of these strategies on children and families—and I’ve never looked back.
What keeps me motivated every day is seeing the progress our children make—especially those who are non-verbal finding new ways to express themselves and communicate their needs. These are the moments that stay with me. They’re the reason I do what I do.
Over the past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in both school and home settings, which has broadened my perspective and helped me adapt to the unique needs of each child and family. It’s been a privilege to work with families from so many different backgrounds and cultures, all united by the same goal: to help their child grow. That sense of shared purpose and teamwork is something I deeply value.
Working at Rainbow has played a huge part in my growth as a therapist. The training and guidance I’ve received have expanded my understanding and given me practical, thoughtful strategies to use in my everyday work. I’ve learnt so much from my colleagues—each one bringing their own experience, insight, and passion—and I’m truly grateful to be part of such a supportive team.
As I continue in this role, I look forward to learning more, growing further, and—most importantly—continuing to help children find their voice, build new skills, thrive, and reach their full potential.
