About the event
DNA-V (Discoverer, Noticer, Advisor, Values) is a developmental model of ACT and positive psychology, underpinned by contextual behavioural science. The model is designed to enhance psychological flexibility in individuals. This workshop will introduce you to the DNA-V model and provide you with tools to integrate psychological flexibility into your practice.
Participants will explore the Discoverer, Noticer, and Advisor as key processes for building more adaptive behaviours and how Values guide action. Using experiential activities, case studies, and behaviourally scientific concepts, attendees will learn how to apply DNA-V to increase resilience, emotional regulation, and goal-directed behaviour in diverse populations, including children and young people and adults.
Emphasizing the importance of context and functional relations, the DNA-V model complements those working with individuals struggling with psychological distress, and striving towards social, emotional and mental wellbeing. This model offers a framework to help individuals better navigate thoughts, emotions, and behaviours aligned with their values.
Professionals that will benefit from this workshop include but are not limited to; clinical psychologists, educational psychologists, teachers, SENCOs, behaviour analysts, positive behaviour support practitioners, learning and development leads, coaches, counsellors, ACT Practitioners.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand the Core Concepts of DNA-V: Participants will be able to describe the Discoverer, Noticer, Advisor, and Values components of the DNA-V model and how they promote psychological flexibility.
2. Link DNA-V to Behavioural Principles: Attendees will learn to map DNA-V processes to fundamental evidence-based principles, such as functional contextualism and verbal behaviour.
3. Enhance Client Psychological Flexibility: Participants will explore how DNA-V can be used to increase psychological flexibility in clients, facilitating more adaptive responses to thoughts, emotions, and environmental contingencies.
4. Apply DNA-V in Practice: Through case examples and role-plays, attendees will practice implementing the DNA-V model in interventions, focusing on enhancing clients’ problem-solving skills, emotional regulation, and value-driven actions.
5. Integrate DNA-V with Assessment: Participants will learn how to incorporate DNA-V into assessment of needs and behaviour and learning intervention plans, helping to address complex behaviours influenced by cognitive and emotional factors.
6. Support Skill Development in Children, Young People and Adults: Attendees will explore specific applications of DNA-V to help children, adolescents and adult clients build resilience, self-regulation, and long-term goal-setting aligned with their values.
This workshop equips behaviour analysts with new strategies to expand their practice and support clients in living more flexible, value-driven lives, while maintaining fidelity to behaviour analytic principles.
