Intensive Behavioural Therapy and Intervention

Rainbow Behavioural Therapies provides consultancy, supervision, training and direct therapy services to families, schools and local authorities seeking intensive behavioural intervention/therapy for supporting children with additional communication, emotional and behavioural needs including those with autism, learning difficulties and other developmental delays.

This application of behavioural science is most commonly referred to as ABA Therapy.

What is ABA Therapy?

ABA Therapy is an approach to teaching skills in achievable steps in a playful and fun way so that learners remain motivated and interested in learning the skills that are important for their development.

ABA Therapy can be broken down into Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention (EIBI) and Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI).

EIBI

What is EIBI?

Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention (EIBI) involves working with children under the age of 5 years old. The focus of this type of intervention is to teach early learning-to-learn skills such as ways to communicate, play and learn from others.

This therapy can occur in the home, nursery, school and community settings in order to best teach skills that are meaningful, purposeful and that can be generalised to occur naturally across all environments.

Targets are set at an achievable level following initial assessment and monitored closely to ensure that progress is continually made towards the child’s highest potential.

What is IBI?

Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) follows similar strategies and principles as EIBI but is to support learners above the age of 5.

As well as similar targets as set in EIBI programs IBI targets may include a wider range of communication skills, independence skills, school-ready skills and functional academic skills. Support can occur in home, school and community settings.
